Shirley Payton from Hello Shan Studio is a ceramic artist working as part of Kiln Cambridge, a community art space. 

She decorates lovely ceramic wares which are slab built or wheel thrown, with her illustrations using a paper resist method and hand painting in the line work. Shirley is mostly inspired by a combination of folk and mid century design and you’ll mostly find birds in her illustrations. She likes to work with slips and underglazes on white stoneware clay or porcelain. High fired and covered in lovely soft shiny clear glaze to make her pieces fit for purpose. She mostly makes plates which start at trinket size and go up to large platter size plates. Customers have purchased her plates and used them as wall decoration as well as using them as tableware.
